Double Column Machining Centers

The CNC double-column machining center is a precision metal processing machine that can handle multiple machining tasks at once. Regarding the milling process of a double-column machining center, it is a process of using a rotating tool to remove workpiece material by pushing the tool into one or more workpieces. The cutting process can be done in different directions, these directions are based on the box, just like a lathe in the way of a box. In addition to turning, milling also covers a variety of operations, ranging from a single tiny part to heavy and large milling tasks.

The vertical machining center is an arrangement in which the structure is aligned in the vertical direction, and the workpiece is processed by a cutting tool that vertically moves up and down. In contrast, the main axis of the horizontal machining center is placed horizontally, and the machining is performed lying down. With the vertical design, the weight of the workpiece will help it be firmly positioned on the fixture to make a heavier vertical cutting path without worrying about path deviation. With the help of the power turret, the cycle time is greatly reduced. The machining of workpieces in the machine center is usually not circular, but other complex profiles. The former can be handled in a more efficient manner by a lathe with a power turret.
 
Regarding the five-axis machining center, there are three main methods of constructing the five-axis machine. Most machining angles can be achieved by the swing head. This machine, other 4 + 1, and 3 + 2 machining centers are convenient, and the latter has more practical advantages. On the other hand, traditional machining centers are designed with at least three axes, namely x, y, and z. Today, industrial processes are complicated by the need for fewer processes. There are machining centers designed on the 4th and 5th axis that can complete all cutting tasks during shutdown.
 
The CNC double-column machining center is designed to process large and thick workpieces. Under normal circumstances, these workpieces will bring large and intolerant vibration to the frame, and cause uncontrollable deviation from the target accuracy. Therefore, the use of two columns can reduce cutting vibration and increase the rigidity of the tool to obtain the best machining effect.

Since the invention of the column milling-based machine, the application of the tool system installed on the column has been popular because it can bring additional axes, which makes the structure more practical.
 
Moreover, with the double-column structure, we can also observe that the overall cutting capacity has not only doubled, but also raised to another standard level. The final product is easier for the following manufacturers to process because the workpiece has higher accuracy and precision. If using the old structure, it cannot be realized in the mass production mode. Now, some of the bridge type, gantry type, and other similar structures of the milling based machines such as milling centers and machining centers are capable of being equipped with this feature in order to meet the customers’ needs.
